High current power inductors are devices that operate based on the fundamental principle of electromagnetic induction. When an electric current flows through a wire, it generates an electromagnetic field around the wire. This electromagnetic field induces an electromotive force within the wire itself, within the boundaries of this electromagnetic field.
This phenomenon affecting the wire due to its own generated electromagnetic field is referred to as "self-inductance." In other words, the changing current in the wire creates a changing magnetic field, which, in turn, influences the current flowing through the wire. The influence on other wires within the same electromagnetic field is known as mutual inductance.

The electrical characteristics of shielded inductors, or simply inductors, are essentially the opposite of capacitors, as they "allow low-frequency signals to pass through while impeding high-frequency ones." High-frequency signals encounter significant resistance when passing through an inductor, making it challenging for them to pass through.
Conversely, low-frequency signals face relatively minimal resistance, allowing them to pass through more easily. It's important to note that inductor coils have nearly zero resistance to direct current.

In the context of electrical circuits, resistance, capacitance, and inductance collectively contribute to a hindrance to the flow of electrical signals, which we refer to as "impedance." Inductors, in particular, employ the concept of self-inductance in their impedance characteristics. These components are sometimes simply called "inductors" or "coils" and are symbolically represented by the letter "L." When constructing an inductor, the number of turns in the coil is typically referred to as the "coil's number of turns."
