The Importance of Insulation Testing in High-Frequency Transformers

When dealing with high-frequency transformers, one of the most critical aspects of their assembly is the insulation testing. After oil injection into the transformer, it is essential to wait for 24 hours before conducting the insulation test. The reason for this is that some parts of the transformer insulation may still be moist from the oil soak, which could lead to hidden insulation defects that are not immediately apparent.

Carrying out this test ensures that the high-frequency step-up transformer will perform as intended without any risk of electrical shorts or failures. If moisture is trapped within the insulation layers, it may lead to reduced dielectric strength, which could eventually cause the transformer to fail prematurely. Only after allowing enough time for the insulation material to settle should the insulation resistance tests be carried out to ensure the system is safe and ready for operation.
