May 18, 2026 | Shanghai, China Industry analysts from the China Electronic Components Association (CECA) and DataIntelo predict that global demand for automotive grade SMD power inductor components will double by 2030, driven by the rapid shift to electric vehicles, 800V high voltage platforms, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
A typical modern EV uses 20 to 40 high reliability SMD power inductor devices in critical systems including OBC, DC DC converters, motor drives, BMS, radar, and infotainment units—up to seven times more than traditional internal combustion engine vehicles.
Automotive SMD power inductor components must meet strict AEC Q200 reliability and ISO 26262 functional safety standards, withstanding extreme temperatures, vibration, and long term durability requirements. Leading manufacturers are expanding automotive SMD power inductor production capacity and developing customized designs for high voltage SiC and GaN power systems. The report emphasizes that the SMD power inductor will remain a foundational component in vehicle electrification, with significant growth potential in both passenger and commercial new energy vehicle markets.
