Functions and Applications of Inductors

1.Resistance function:
The self-induced electromotive force in a coil always opposes changes in current. Inductors can be classified into high-frequency chokes and low-frequency chokes. 
2.Tuning and frequency selection:
An LC resonant circuit is formed by connecting an inductor and capacitor in parallel. When the natural oscillation frequency matches the input signal frequency, resonance occurs. At this point, energy continuously oscillates between the inductor and capacitor, resulting in maximum current and minimum impedance, enabling frequency selection. 
3.Choke function:
In low-frequency circuits, inductors block AC ripple and help convert pulsating DC into smooth DC. They are often used with capacitors in rectifier output filters. In high-frequency circuits, they suppress unwanted high-frequency signals. 
4.Filtering function:
Inductors are used in filtering circuits to smooth rectified DC signals. Together with capacitors, they help reduce ripple and stabilize DC output, sometimes replaced by resistors to reduce cost. 
5.Oscillation function:
Inductors are also used in oscillators, which convert DC into AC signals. Oscillators can generate sine, sawtooth, square, trapezoidal, and pulse waveforms across a wide frequency range.
