High frequency current transformers are essential components in the field of power transmission and signal modulation. These transformers utilize electromagnetic induction to facilitate efficient energy transfer between circuits. Comprising an iron core (or magnetic core) and several coils, these transformers are designed to manage high frequency alternating currents.
The primary coil of a high frequency current transformer is connected to the power source, while the secondary coil(s) receive the induced current. When an alternating current flows through the primary coil, it creates an alternating magnetic flux in the core, which induces a corresponding voltage in the secondary coil. Depending on the number of turns in the primary and secondary coils, the transformer can either step up or step down the voltage.
For instance, if the primary coil has more turns than the secondary coil, the transformer acts as a step-down transformer, reducing the output voltage.
Conversely, a primary coil with fewer turns than the secondary coil results in a step-up transformer, increasing the voltage. Despite these variations in voltage, the power transferred remains constant, adhering to the principle that the primary input power equals the secondary output power, minus any inherent losses.
