TDENVER – June 26, 2025 – The global renewable energy industry has emerged as a key growth driver for vertical toroidal inductors, with demand from solar and wind power systems expected to grow at a CAGR of 18% between 2025 and 2030, according to a new analysis by IHS Markit. The report highlights the inductor’s critical role in improving the efficiency and stability of renewable energy systems, particularly in power conversion and energy storage applications.
In solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, vertical toroidal inductors are used in inverters to filter high-frequency noise and stabilize grid-connected current, boosting energy conversion efficiency by up to 3%. In wind turbines, they help mitigate current fluctuations in AC/DC converters, reducing harmonic distortion and extending the lifespan of power electronics. The report notes that each 1MW wind turbine requires approximately 20 to 30 vertical toroidal inductors, while large-scale solar farms can use thousands of units.
The rise of battery energy storage systems (BESS) is another major factor, as vertical toroidal inductors enable efficient energy transfer in bidirectional DC-DC converters. With global BESS installations projected to exceed 600GWh by 2030, the demand for high-reliability inductors is set to soar. “Vertical toroidal inductors’ low electromagnetic radiation and high thermal stability make them ideal for renewable energy applications, where system uptime and efficiency are paramount,” said an IHS Markit analyst.
