TOKYO – August 18, 2025 – TDK Corporation (TSE: 6762) has introduced a new automotive-grade vertical toroidal inductor specifically designed for 800V high-voltage EV platforms, addressing the growing demand for high-power, reliable components in next-generation electric vehicles. The B82472 series inductor features a rated voltage of over 2,000V and a current handling capacity of up to 50A, making it suitable for use in OBCs, DC-DC converters, and powertrain systems.
The vertical toroidal inductor incorporates a nanocrystalline alloy core material, which offers 40% higher power density than traditional ferrite cores while reducing core losses by 20% at high frequencies. Its compact, low-profile design (height as low as 8mm) enables integration into space-constrained EV powertrains, while its compliance with AEC-Q200 automotive standards ensures reliability in harsh operating conditions, including temperature ranges of -40°C to +150°C.
“With 800V EV platforms expected to account for 68% of global EV production by 2030, there is an urgent need for inductors that can handle higher voltages and currents without compromising efficiency,” said a TDK product manager. The B82472 series is now in mass production, with major EV manufacturers in Europe and Asia already adopting the component for their 2026 model-year vehicles.
