Automotive manufacturers are increasingly specifying AEC-Q200 compliant SMD power inductors, driving a 12% year-over-year growth in this segment, according to industry data. These components are critical for EV battery management systems (BMS), on-board chargers, and ADAS power circuits, where high reliability and temperature resistance are non-negotiable.
Bourns’ SRR and SRU series, along with TDK’s TFM201612BLEA line, lead the market, offering shielded designs that suppress EMI in crowded ECUs. “An SMD power inductor in an EV BMS must withstand extreme temperatures and vibration—AEC-Q200 certification is now a baseline requirement,” noted an automotive engineer. Suppliers are responding with advanced materials, such as metal alloy powder cores, that boost saturation current without increasing size.
