April 10, 2025 – Dell Technologies today launched its XPS 16 laptop with a 130W charger that incorporates a vertical toroidal inductor, making it 30% smaller than the previous generation. The new charger, which weighs just 450g, addresses consumer demand for more portable power adapters.
“Laptop users want chargers that fit in backpacks without taking up too much space,” said Mike Hawkes, Dell’s product manager for XPS. “Thevertical toroidal inductor’s circular core allowed us to shrink the charger’s footprint while maintaining safety standards. It also reduces electromagnetic interference (EMI), which improves compatibility with other devices.” Dell’s tests show the charger’s efficiency is 94%, above the industry average of 90%. The XPS 16 and its new charger are available for pre-order now, with shipping starting in May 2025.
