March 5, 2025 – Siemens Industry has introduced a rugged vertical toroidal inductor for use in industrial robots, designed to withstand harsh factory environments (dust, vibration, and temperature fluctuations). The component, model VT-Industrial 500, is rated for IP65 protection and can operate in temperatures ranging from -40°C to +150°C.

Industrial robots rely on inductors to regulate power for motors and sensors, but traditional inductors often fail due to vibration. “The vertical toroidal inductor’s solid core structure is 50% more vibration-resistant than wire-wound alternatives,” said Klaus Weber, Siemens’ industrial components director. “This reduces unplanned downtime for factories, which can cost up to $50,000 per hour.” The VT-Industrial 500 is compatible with Siemens’ Sinamics drive systems, used in automotive assembly lines and logistics warehouses. Samples are available now, with mass production starting in Q2 2025.
