High-Current Thin-Film SMD Power Inductors for Automotive Applications

TDK Corporation has expanded its TFM201612BLEA series of thin-film SMD power inductors, now offering variants that handle currents up to 5.6A—addressing the growing needs of automotive power circuits. Launched in July 2025, the 2.0×1.6×1.2mm inductors (available in 0.33µH and 0.47µH ratings) deliver a 16% higher rated current and 31% lower DC resistance (22mΩ) than previous models of the same size.

Engineered for harsh automotive environments, the SMD power inductor operates reliably at temperatures up to +150°C, meeting AEC-Q200 standards. “As EVs and ADAS become ubiquitous, demand for compact, high-efficiency inductors is skyrocketing,” said a TDK spokesperson. The thin-film technology minimizes core losses, improving power supply efficiency for on-board ECUs. Mass production is now underway to support global automotive OEMs.
